Rakuten Looking At Former Lotte Marine Rick Short

Rakuten Looking At Former Lotte Marine Rick Short
According to Sponichi Annex (in Japanese), the Rakuten Eagles are looking into signing former Chiba Lotte Marines player Rick Short. You can see Rick's complete minor league stats, as well as his activites after playing for Lotte in 2003 at The Baseball Cube. Rakuten is favoring him because he is a utility player who can play everyday. The team is said to be currently in negotiations with Rick, and hopes to have him signed by year's end.

Short had a great year in AAA, he batted .383 with 11HRs and 70 RBI. It would be a great signing for Rakuten. [Minor League Stats]

I hope Rick does well in Japan again. He got a decent amount of press in the US for his long minor league career and only debuting in the majors this year. Despite hitting better than the regulars at third base and second base, it seems politics kept holding him back. For some reason, nobody wants to give him a chance. Hopefully he can put up .300+ with over 20 HRs if he plays for Rakuten. I'm rooting for him.
