Hawks fight back to top Fighters
The Pacific League's first-place SoftBank Hawks had a little more punch than Nippon Ham Fighters on Monday.
The Hawks pushed their lead over the second-place Fighters to five games with a 6-3 win at Sapporo Dome, improving to 9-6 vs. the Fighters in the process.
The Hawks rode a four-run seventh inning, taking the lead when Yuichi Honda rolled a bases-loaded single through the right side after Alex Cabrera's RBI single. Seiichi Uchikawa followed with a sacrifice fly to cap the rally, which led the Hawks back from a two-run deficit.
Tadashi Settsu (11-7) put in a quality start, going seven innings and holding the Fighters to three runs on seven hits and a walk, while fanning two. It was the righty's first win in about a month.
Masaru Takeda kept the Hawks to a run on two hits but left after six innings. Ryo Sakakibara (1-3) allowed hits to three of the four batters he faced to take the loss.
Brian Falkenborg fanned two and walked one to notch his 17th save for the Hawks.
