Carp, Lions finished tied in Tokorozawa
The Hiroshima Carp managed to squeeze across a run, but they couldn’t squeeze a victory in Tokorozawa, Saitama, in Friday night’s lone game.
Hiroshima’s Eiishin Soyogi’s squeeze scored Akihiro Higashide, who had tripled with one out in the ninth inning, but Seibu’s Hiroyuki Nakajima stroked his ninth homer in the bottom of the inning, and the teams played to a 1-1, 12-inning tie.
Rookie Kazuhisa Makita went 10 innings for Seibu, allowing just four hits, while walking one and fanning two but go a no-decision. Carp starter Kenta Maeda, the reigning Sawamura Award winner, had arguably his best start but departed after working eight scoreless frames.
The draw left the Pacific League with a 59-41-8 advantage over the Central League in interleague play.
