Tigers won the second game of the series on the back of a fine performance by Iwata. For six innings Giants could get nowhere and by the time they got to Iwata they were too late. Tigers had built up a five run lead. Murton and Toritani both produced a brace and Uemoto added another one. Sawamura or Mr smug was anything but and was ejected in the fifth for throwing a dangerous pitch at Uemoto. It was a bad night for the Giants. Tigers won the game 5-2 and now lead the series 2-1 with two more victories needed for advancement. However, the Giants have come back from 3-0 down so Tigers need to continue to play at the current level and Giants need to continue to flounder.

"Produced a brace"

What does that mean?

A brace is an old English word for a pair - as in a brace of pistols or a brace of pheasants.

Which of course suits an old English game like baseball.

Personally I like the idea of a brace of pheasants or a brace of hares for the pot. Still in baseball one has to settle for a brace of RBIs.
