New Inter-league uniforms revealed

Modelled by Iwata and Andoh, the Tigers revealed their new inter-league uniforms yesterday. I had hoped to post a link to photos but these don't seem to be available so I will have to describe them.

The home uniform is based on the current one but the stripes fade out towards the bottom of the trousers. They also fade out around the logo and number. The logo reads 'Tigers' and is black with white lining. Behind is a roughly sprayed yellow background which highlights the name. The player's number is also on the front also with the sprayed effect. The back shows a similar effect on both the number and name - with the yellow spray highlight as well. The batting helmet ventilation holes are outlined in yellow. The cap and helmet logo is a white T and yellow H.

The away uniform is grey with black and white stripes (the black stripe being over a broader white stripe). Once again the fading effect is used for the bottom of the trousers but this time also around the neck and waist. The logo 'Hanshin' is printed in white with black lining on the chest along with the player number. Both are highlighted in sprayed yellow. This effect is repeated for the player's name and number on the back. The batting helmet and cap both have a grey peak with holes outlined in grey. The cap and helmet logo is a white T and grey H.

All logo's, names are printed not embroidered. An interesting and modern variation on the current uniform. I am not sure about the yellow sprayed highlight effect though.

Anything will be better than the atrocious home uniforms last year that someone incorporated a shade of baby blue into Hanshin's colors.

That was actually the year before and was a retro feature. The inter-league uniforms of last year were truely abysmal and involved a black top and grey trousers for the away uniform. The home strip wasn't much better.

OK then - I have found the photos of the uniforms (they are now up on the Tigers website). Note the text is in Japanese but the photos are clear

What's with the big yellow splotch on the back of both uniforms? And why do the lines fade as you go down the legs? And, to be honest, they don't even look that different from the normal uniforms. Just a few minor cosmetic differences slapped on.

As far as I'm concerned, the idea of special uniforms for inter-league play is silly in the first place. Just an excuse to sell more merchandise.

Having seen the uniforms in the field now I can say that they look very good. They have a fresh modern quality and are not too divorced from the old ones. Sometimes a small change is all that is needed. Of course they are a marketing move but one which I don't mind.

Well, I don't care for the designs, but I hope they bring us more luck. I don't recall that we have faired very well in interleague. Were we 9-14 last year? And do you have stats for the first year? Hopefully our hot streak can continue through interleauge. Although we are off to a bad start already...

Lucky for you guys, the Dragons are going through similar struggles so far in Interleague. So no ground lost yet for the Tigers.

As for the uniform, what was the point of these? It's basically the same jersey with a sunburst effect on it. However they're still better than last year's atrocities.

There uniforms look very nice. Very sharp looking.
