Kevin Huang Coming to Japan?

Discussion in the Around Asia forum
Kevin Huang Coming to Japan?
Taiwanese righty Kevin Huang, who is currently in the Red Sox organization, has plans to come here to Japan and pursue his career. The young righty has not played pro ball for the last months due to a visa problem in America. The Red Sox are willing to sell him, and a number of teams have interest in him including the Giants, Tigers, and Carp.

Huang was a member of this year's Chinese Taipei National team and had good performances against Cuba and Greece. He throws a good moving fastball in the mid-90's with a decent curve and sinker.

Where is your resource? I have never heard of that before.

I thought the Red Sox already released him 2-3 months ago, so he's free to sign with any team, if I'm not wrong.

Sorry, you are wrong. Huang will get the visa next season.

Are you telling me that Huang is still under contract with the Red Sox?

Yeah, he is still under contract, but can't play due to visa problems.

I'm confused. I assume this article is wrong where they said the Red Sox and Huang parted ways. [Link - MLB.com]

Yep! That article is wrong! Hunag is still under the Red Sox management but can't play due to visa problems (as I said before). They wanted him to play in the Mexican leagues until he could get his visa back, but he went back to Taiwan and prepared for the Olympics.

Hey, I wonder why baseball players can't get VISAs but terrorists can?

Yeah that is weird, and it's weird how their organizations don't do anything about it for one whole year.

It is not that the orginizations don't do anything, they can't do anything about it. The limit of foreign visas allowed was used up. They have been trying to get the president to make special cases for baseball players, and just give them visas or have special visas for baseball players that do not count against the cap of total visas allowed for foreigners.

So far it has not worked.

Any news on Huang? Is he going to pitch in the CPBL or what? I haven't heard anything of him since the Olympics.
