日本ハムのルーキー金子洋平外野手（２５＝ホンダ）がオープン戦第２号の２ラン本塁打を含む、２打数２安打４打点と活躍した。５回裏の守備から途中出場。７回の第１打席で右中間突破の三塁打を放ち、２打点を挙げた。続く９回の第２打席はバックスクリーン直撃の推定飛距離１３０メートルアーチをかけ、相手投手陣にとどめを刺した。オープン戦出場５試合で１１打数４安打５打点２本塁打と勢いに乗る右の和製大砲が、開幕の定位置どりをアピールした。日本ハムは１２安打７得点で同リーグのライバル球団に完封勝ち。オープン戦の成績は２勝１分け３敗となった。
