CPBL Opener: Cobras vs. Bulls
After five exhibition games the Chinese Professional Baseball League starts their 100 game schedule today with the Makoto Cobras playing the Sinon Bulls at Taichung.

The Bulls will try to go for a three-peat in what promises to be one of the best years in the CPBL's modern era. Local stars Huang Jun-chun and Chen Chin-feng are back with the La New Bears.

As for the Bulls, Osvaldo Martinez and Lenin Picota are in the past. Out comes Jorge Cortez, Clint Weibl, and Alfredo Gonzalez. Yang Chien-fu will be the ace. On the offensive side, look out for Chang Tai-shan and Hsu Guo-long who has emerged as sluggers.

Their opponents tonight, the Cobras, lost Lin Ying-jeh to the Rakuten Golden Eagles. Lin En-yu will be counted upon again to carry the load along with former Major Leaguer Jose Paniagua. Slugger Hsieh Jia Hsian (23 home runs and 74 RBIs to lead the league last season) will provide the offense.

Meanwhile, the President Lions have signed 27 year old left handed pitcher Eric Cyr. He was 5-5 with a 5.64 ERA in 38 games for the Salt Lake City Stingers of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League.

About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
