Mets Interested in Maekawa?

Mets Interested in Maekawa?
In addition to interest by the Washington Nationals, the New York Mets are rumored to be showing interest in former Orix starter Katsuhiko Maekawa.

Maekawa was suspended indefinably by the Orix Buffaloes after a hit and run accident in January of this year (2007). He had a career 31-45 record with a 5.26 ERA in 149 games. I seriously can't see how Maekawa would make the Mets' roster.

With his record, it is hard to see how he would draw interest. But a small market MLB team, like the Royals or the Pirates, could use him to eat up innings, like Tim Wakefield of the Red Sox or Carlos Silva of the Mariners.
