Hiromitsu Ochiai Bio
Probably Japan's best player of the 1980s (with a nod to Randy Bass), Ochiai won three Triple Crowns in the Pacific League in 1982, 1985, and 1986 for the Lotte Orions. He was known as an "American-style" player: he thought the extreme Japanese league workouts of the time excessive, and he wanted to be paid what he was worth.

After winning his third Triple Crown in 1986, the Orions traded him to the Chunichi Dragons in the Central League, a move that can only be explained by his salary demands and his desire to train in his own way. He was so good, though, that he eventually got to do it "his way."

Ochiai is now the manager of the Chunichi Dragons.
