Visiting Oendan

Discussion in the Ask the Commish forum
Visiting Oendan
Are the members of the oendan (cheering section) for the visiting team local fans of the visiting team or do some members travel from the visiting team's city to the opponent's park? If the latter, that must be very expensive and difficult for someone with a full-time job. Do some oendan get paid, and if so, how much and by whom?

Deanna (Marinerds) is our resident oendan expert. I'll give her a shout out and see if she can fill in the details.

Based on my own observations, there are local oendan to many regions. If it's a long way to go, a traveling oendan will usually only do so for weekend and holiday games. But I have no idea about professional or subsidized status.
About

This is a site about Pro Yakyu (Japanese Baseball), not about who the next player to go over to MLB is. It's a community of Pro Yakyu fans who have come together to share their knowledge and opinions with the world. It's a place to follow teams and individuals playing baseball in Japan (and Asia), and to learn about Japanese (and Asian) culture through baseball.

It is my sincere hope that once you learn a bit about what we're about here that you will join the community of contributors.
