Furuta Becomes 2nd Catcher to Reach 1,000 RBI
Yakult Swallows catcher Atsuya Furuta came on as a pinch hitter during the October 5th game against the Chunichi Dragons, and hit an RBI single to left field, giving him 1,000 career RBI, to become the 27th player in NPB history to reach the mark. He also became just the second catcher in NPB history, after Nomura Katsuya, to achieve the mark. His first RBI came back on April 30, 1990, against the Giants. If Shinnosuke Abe continues his hitting power for much longer, then maybe he will be the 3rd Catcher to reach 1,000 RBI.
